With the $35 a month plan you get 300 minutes of talk time. If minutes are left at end of month are they rolled over /maintained
or do you lose them when you purchase a new top up card for the next month?

If by the end of your service period, you did not use all your minutes, you will lose the remainder of your minutes. If you feel that 300 minutes were not enough for you, sign up for the $45 dollar plan which includes 1200 minutes, unlimited text and unlimited web. No contract and no strings attached. You will not regret it.

Swapping Phones
I currently have a Rise and may purchase the EVO 4G.

How do I seemlessly swap out phones while keeping voice etc. Do I lose all text messages? What if I have Apps running on the SD card?

use the Swap phones option on the Virgin website. You can swap memory cards when you get the new phone or use your computer to transfer info from the old card to the new one. Short easy answer is that your text messages stay with the phone. You can Google ways to transfer your text messages, but they are kind of complex. Consider using a cloud based text messaging option like Google Voice for keeping all your messages in one place.
