Question
What is the difference between RAM and ROM?
When it says 1 gb ram and 4 gb rom what does that mean?

"1GB RAM" means the architecture includes 1GB (a billion bytes) of RAM. RAM is where the OS and programs run while the phone is on and being used. RAM clears itself when the phone is shut off so it can't be used to permanently store stuff. More RAM = can do more things at once, and faster. It is also used to "cache" or store frequently-ran programs and settings, so that they load and start faster. 1GB equates to good performance for this low-cost phone.

"4GB ROM" means is has 4GB of space to permanently store the OS and any programs (apps) you install. ROM means that the data in it does not disappear when shut off. 4GB is enough to put the OS and at least several dozen apps, photos, videos, etc. without "running out of space."

This phone includes a micro-SD card slot, in which you can add up to a 32GB micro-SD card. This can also be used to store photos and whatnot. So in other words, the ROM is expandable by 1,2,4,8,16, or 32GB.

Sounds like your location has good coverage by Virgin Mobile USA. If you liked your old VM phone then any Beyond Talk phone should work well for you, too.

► Check your COVERAGE on the top line of this webpage.
          OR
Follow the link at this FAQ: http://virginmobileusa.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3164/kw/coverage

Be sure to select your coverage interest such as 4G LTE, 4G WiMAX, 3G Data Coverage, or Voice Coverage in the boxes above the map.

► Phone reception is not just a function of the phone. It is also dependent on location, obstacles like buildings, and proximity to cellular network towers. Virgin Mobile USA phones and broadband devices use ONLY the Sprint Nationwide Network which extends throughout the US and do not roam across other networks. The Sprint Network is concentrated mostly near large cities.

"Coverage is not available everywhere and varies based on a number of factors. Our coverage maps provide high level estimates of our coverage areas when using your device outdoors under optimal conditions. Coverage isn't available everywhere. Estimating wireless coverage and signal strength is not an exact science. There are gaps in coverage within our estimated coverage areas that, along with other factors both within and beyond our control (network problems, software, signal strength, your wireless device, structures, buildings, weather, geography, topography, etc.), will result in dropped and blocked connections, slower data speeds, or otherwise impact the quality of services. Services that rely on location information, such as E911 and GPS navigation, depend on your device's ability to acquire satellite signals (typically not available indoors) and network coverage. E911 services also depend local emergency service provider systems/support. Estimated future coverage subject to change."
