Pay as you go is an alternative to having a phone plan where you are in a contract. You pay a month, and you get service for a month. If you can't pay the next month, you don't get extra fees or anything. Most companies make you pay to get out of a contract and in pay as you go, if you don't pay, you just don't get to use your phone.

Because you get the option of using the pas as you go, minute packs. But for those of us that use our phones a lot of text a lot, the monthly plans offer better savings.
Pay as you go refers to not having to sign a contract, and being able to cancel your service anytime you choose, without penalty. It has nothing to do with the packages that are offered, or how those packages are payed for.
Because you are getting a better deal with these new plans, as long as you use the extra benefits.
