You can change your Messaging Option on your payLo plan for Unlimited Messaging. To change your Messaging Settings, log into your account on the Virgin Mobile site, go to Phone, Apps & More tab, Edit Message Settings. On the first line you will see your currently selected Messaging Option. Below you will see available Messaging Options. Pick the one that is right for you and then hit the Update button. The amount for your new Messaging Option will be deducted from your account.

Sorry, Virgin Mobile's offer for the Basic Rate plan expired as of Jun. 24, 2013. The Basic Rate plan is no longer available to new customers nor to current customers wishing to switch plans.

Current customers with the Basic Rate plan active in an account will be grandfathered and can keep the plan until the plan is discontinued as long as they don't change plans or let their accounts expire. If a current customer with an active Basic Rate plan changes plan to a monthly plan($20, $30, or $40 per month) the Basic Rate plan will no longer be available to them.

answer 2
Yes, but you should think about it.

You can change plans as your needs change as long as your account is active. And you will lose any unused minutes when you switch plans. So it's a good idea to use up all your minutes before you make the switch. Note that you will not be able to return to any expired plan (plans that are no longer offered) if you decide to change plans. If you decide to go back only the current Basic Rate of 20¢ per minute will be available to you.

Virgin Mobile offers the 3 Beyond Talk and 3 payLo plans at this time. There are no family plans.

However, does everybody in the family really need the same plan and phone? Using the Virgin Mobile plans you could set up your family with a phone and plan that is suitable for each member. Mom and Dad could have the $55 unlimited everything from the Beyond Talk plans and a smart phone or Android phone. The kids could each have a payLo phone with an "allowance" for minutes or messages.

No. Out of the three payLo plans the best plan for you is the $30/month Talk and Text plan with 1,500 minutes talk, 1,500 messages(text, email, IM, picture) and 30 mb of web access.

If that isn't enough then you'll need to get one of the Beyond Talk phones with a Beyond Talk plan.

I thought the same thing. However, I just called Virgin and the data (other than the 24hr basic rate) allocation expires after one month. I verified this on the payLo phone through account settings. When I selected "Change data settings" it gave me the plans and stated "Select a MONTHLY data plan", 24hr having an explicit exception.
